gathering place for guides and clients. There is a charm about the place--a
make-yourself-at-home atmosphere and a relaxed attitude"

"Throughout our stay at the Kelley
Ranch we were welcomed by everyone we encountered and were treated to fine food
around a warm table."

a minimum

The 2008 grouse season will open September 13th and run through December 31st. Pointing dogs furnish the most thrilling bird work during the first five weeks of the season; conversely, if sportsmen are hunting with a trophy-class mount in mind, then we recommend the last sixty days of the season. Throughout the season, most of the prairie birds are harvested in daylight's middle hours. Therefore, no good reason to get started at daybreak. Relax, hunt, eat a fine meal, and generally make this an outing to remember.
The hunting picture does change as the season progresses for the prairie chicken
and sharptail grouse, so we divide the hunting year into three seasons and
describe them as;
Early season--first
five weeks--best time for pursuing prairie chickens behind hard-charging but
deliberate pointing dogs.
Mid season--October
20th through November 1st--a mixture of early and late season. Dogs may or may
not be used. Time of transition!
Late season--November
1st through December 31st--tactical, trophy, and most challenging hunt.
Experience the ultimate--succeed at
what most people refer to as an
"impossibility". Mornings and late evenings may be used pursuing bobwhites.
Both hunting success and personal safety issues are the reasons we highly recommend only two guns on the ground at a time during the late season! In any season we will not accompany a group larger than four guns.
This is not a shoot, it is an experience that cannot be duplicated
